We are going through a season of change in our family. Our daughters are leaving home. Daughter 2 moved in with a roommate. Daughter 3 sophomore and daughter 4 freshman are college bound. As we listen to their plans and goals we have to remember they are inexperienced young adults. They are not stupid. Yes some of their ideas seem unrealistic to us fifty something older adult parents, but not because the idea is not a good one.
Our role is changing. We can’t tell them what to do. We can’t push them to do things our way even if we know that our way is less stressful. All we can do is advise and pray. So much praying!
It helps to remember what we were like at this age. I knew everything and no one could tell me otherwise. I survived. My parents survived and we will survive this new normal too.
